  1. There can be benefits to both Centralization and Decentralization in technology. Apple was considered one of the most innovative brands in technology under the leadership of Steve Jobs. He was so integral to the growth of Apple as a company that when they were failing as a business he was brought back into the company by the very people that had forced him out years before. It was after his return to the company that they began to make waves in the consumer electronics industry with the "i" devices that have become the corner stone of the market. After his death everyone already had such low expectations where the company would go that stocks immediately fell and the outlook of their advancements looked slim. The company has started to look at going more of a decentralized direction of managing their business.

Decentralization has worked very well though for a company like Nissan and the French car company, Renault. Together the companies were doing moderately well in their respective prime markets, Japan and Europe. However after the companies merged into an almost equal partnership their ability to do business has increased. Each company now reports to one central manager who takes direct from regional managers and board managers. Those groups all work together across many countries to make decisions for the company.

There is no real way to say that one concept is better than the other, just is it better for the business at that time.

  2. One of the most centrilized companies in technology is Apple. Steve Jobs was the main front man for the company apple who after his death was replaced with Tim Cook. Apple is extremely centrilized because this man always has the final word on any major move the company makes or before any new product is released.

If i had to think of a company that is very decentrilized i would go with facebook. It started out as a centrilized company when pretty much the only employees were its founders. Now the company is very well known for rewarding employees for creativity. It was rated the number 1 place to work in 2013. I see facebook as a team of people making decissions instead of the final word always going through a CEO.

  3. I think that it took both centralization and decentralization to simply create the technology we have today. It took the Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and thier teams to get things going. Then it took all of us to give the feedback and let them knw what we want and need on our phones, computers, tablets, or whatever we use. It took there centralized ideas to get products on the shelvs, and our imput being decentralization to get the tech we have today to help us.

The impact we are going to continue to have is how technology is going to impove, progress, and evolve. All the while technology is working hard so we dont have to, I can even tell Im having to focus hard just to capitoize I because Im so used to having spell check automatically correct it for me. As long as we keep demanding new and helpful things technogoly will be improved to make our lives easier and we will pay for it.

  4. As explained in the article, centralization and decentralization are opposites in the world of business management. Business owners who run their companies as centralized make decisions themselves or rely on a few head employees. On the other hand, decentralized organizations allow decision making for all workers. Each strategy has its advantages in the business world.
I think that decentralization would be the way to allow ideas for new ways to use technology to be tossed around in the business world. A CEO of a company isn't going to know what would work best when it comes to a specific machine in his company. The people who are operating the machine are going to know how to improve it best because they work with it on a daily basis. The heads of companies should get input from the workers when it comes to updating technology. However, decisions about technology shouldn't be relied completely on the workers; there should be a balance between management and workers.

  5. An example of centralization to the impact of technology on our society would be Apple products. All of there technology ultimately is the same. For instance ill talk about the iPhone and how it doesn't really change the way it looks. The only part that usually changes in a significant way is the software updates. The iPhone is the way it is and that's how it is. It hasn't changed the look in a big way since the beginning. They don't want to change because that's there trademark but this makes it harder to bring new ideas to the table. Ultimately making Apple or the iPhone centralized.

On the other hand a different brand of phone would be Motorola which their phones will change more often then an Apple iPhone. This would be decentralized in a way that more people are working on new ideas to better the company and try to bring in new clients/customers.

  6. centralization is almost like a "i say this", i say that because only the "big man" (CEO,ect.) are in charge of the decision making or ideas with new products or anything else. think as if the products are of the same idea/line of expertise. Decentralization is almost like a "free country", i say that because all the members or organizations inside of the company get an idea and a say in a product or ideas. Think as if the company branches out in many ideas.(products)
Therefore, you can see that the differences are pretty clear; personally i think decentralization is the way to go. Today in our society it would be hard to be a centralized company because of the the downfalls that could come with just one person making a decision for a product or new company idea. Decentralization has all the right ideas, different groups (organizations) of the company get to have input and get the share how the feel about that new idea/product and how it could help or not help the company.

For example lets use Johnson and Johnson. When they have a new idea for a product they do a lot of idea sharing and decision making together. Not only do they keep the information to themselves, but after they have decided among the company for a new product they branch out to their customers for support, ideas, and how they feel about this new product of Johnson and Johnson. Unlike where Apple uses the same product type or kind Johnson and Johnson has different product types like; band aids, baby products and many many more.

  7. An example for centralization and decentralization in our society could be the way we watch television now a days. There are the television companies that just come out with a skinnier TV or a more clearer picture. Nothing really changes but the size of the TV. Companies do not branch out to what society actually does now a days and that is watching Netflix, Hulu, Amazon video player, or other companies that allow you to watch any movie you want for a price.

Decentralization in technology with TV's is something that people want to see. A TV that branches its self to companies like Netflix. You can now buy TV's that have Netflix and other video players connected to the TV with just a simple button. People love that it is so easy to access that this way instead of having to get a Wii or an Xbox or something else that connects to your TV to watch.

  8. Centralization is when a organization is controlled by one individuals thoughts and ideas. An example of this would be present day North Korea. A country like North Korea is controlled by one man's family for years. They tell you what you can eat, when it's appropriate to speak, what to wear and how to act. In this type of environment as an individual you have no say so in how you live your life someone else is calling the shots at all times.

Decentralization is where a organization is willing to respond to feedback to get better and allows others to give their own opinions. While staying with the theme of countries, the United States of America is a perfect example of decentralization. With a vast government that the US has everyone has the right to say what they want, and pretty much do what they want. Even looking just at the government, there's the White House with congress and the president however they do not control all 50 states. Each state has there own governing body, meaning each state can make their own laws and like mandating different speed limits for different zones. One thing that may be legal in Arizona may be illegal in the state of North Dakota.

  9. There are a lot of centralization and decentralization in technology and or society today. One place we see centralization is in commercials on TV. Some organizations have very mild and dull commercials that are more facts based which to me would be considered characteristics of centralization. I think this because through the years they have not made change with their ads. For example I will use pc commercials versus mac commercials.

I think that mac commercials are more fun and keep you wanting to look forward to watching them when commercials come on. I believe these are characteristics of decentralization because overtime they have changed their approach to things and have not stayed the same.

I choose my topic to be commercials because typically commercials have a lot to do with what technology the consumers buy. Having a good add impacts society by changing our perspective on a certain products.

  10. Centralization is when there is a consolidating power at the top who has all control.Which means they are responsible for all decesion making choices. Decentralization is the opposite,as these organizations allow for decesion making choices to be shared across the company. Both centralization and decentralization have direct impacts on technology in our society.
Decentralization is increasing among companies and the reason why is because it includes the whole company in there decesions. This will have an impact on technology because , now everyone at the company is working hard together because they feel they are involed. Centralization impacts technology as well as the person with power may demand his employees to work hard to enhance technology. Still it can hurt because , his workers would less enthustiac because they are not involed in the decesion making process.
