Outside of the "technology box"....

When the word "technology" comes up we tend to instantly think of computers, hackers, or anything that starts with "i" however technology encompasses a much wider array of topics.  Today we are going to look at how technology effects transportation.

Yesterday was a big day in the transportation industry!!! Read the following article and share your thoughts!

The following article discusses one of the newest trends in air travel.  Do you think it will become a reality?  Share your thoughts!

Then, click on the link and take the quick quiz :) What do you think was the most worthwhile invention? Why?

  1. I think a tunnel like that is an amazing feat of engineering. It reminds me of the Hampton Tunnel I used to drive through to get from place to place while living in Norfolk. It was more of a chunnel, a tunnel underwater that took you from one part of the Chesapeake Bay to the other.

I think air travel like that will become a reality, planes have been able to fly at supersonic speeds for years. However for major commercial use it will be difficult because not everyone has the tolerance to fly at those speeds, which is why the requirements for fighter pilots are so strict. They would really have find a way to make the force on the passengers lessened so it would be tolerable.

I think the most important invention in mass transportation is the railroad. It was really the first thing to link countries together, like in the US linking the East and West coast. Not only that but railroads also linked the US to Canada as well as our purchase of Alaska. The railroad system was also the first revolution in shipping goods for the US by greatly reducing the travel time of most products by bringing them by rail-car. There are many cities in this country that would not exist, or even be sustained if it wasn't for the railroad.

  2. I think that that tunnel will be a great addition to traveling. Instead of waiting for a barge or whatever they had to do before now they can get on a train which is much more efficient and timely. I don't think that the concept of the plane they are making will catch on. It will be to costly for it to be a reasonable mode of transportation. Maybe a few rich people will try it out but I don't think it will ever become a major mode of transportation. I think the most worthwhile invention was the airplane. Without the airplane we would still be stuck using cars and boats to get places which take much longer.

  3. This new trend in air travel is definitely something I think we probably saw coming. Inventors are always trying to make things better and more efficient, so why not work on air travel. I think the new 50 passenger plane could be a reality if they can figure out the most efficient shape and what not. I can definitely see it being here in 10 years.
In the quiz I think that the most worth while invention is the plane by the wright brothers. This developed to the planes we have no which will probably be around this world for a very long time, until they figure out time travel or something. This is the fastest way to get anywhere far.

  4. I think the underground train to the two countries is very convenient for them. it should stop a lot of issues with traffic and help a lot of people that make that trip everyday with a reliable source of transportation.

I do think that the newest trend air travel will become a reality, by now i thought they would already have flying cars and a lot of other things like this so seeing this in the near future would not be much of a surprise to me at all. Even though they say it will not appear until 2050 because they still have a lot of kinks to work out and still have to decide on a good shape to design it in.

I think that the most worthwhile invention was the wright brothers and the first flight of an heavier-then-air mechanic, even though it only lasted 12 seconds it was revolutionary for air craft engineers.

    1. I agree with your statement on underground trains

  5. On the first article it kind of reminded me of Williston. Why? I say that because like here Istanbul is growing everyday. But with the advances in technology there are more ways to connect to different places. Bridges and new railways are being built making more and new traffic.

A rocket type of airplane is stretching the idea of air travel, i think. They say an average cost for a traveler is around a hundred thousand dollars. Would you pay that? I know i wouldn't, and plus look at the statistics about safe airplanes. Its newer technology anything can happen. Also you will be traveling at just about the speed of sound? I personally don't see that being a trend. But yet it will be "2050" so who knows! it may be popular. If you have a lot of money.

I think the most worthwhile invention would be Da Vinci's drawing and idea of the "helicopter". I mean look how popular it is now. It is used quite a lot.Hospitals use it for emergency's to transport critical patients. the government/president use it for travels some times. Not only that but regular people use them too. For one example; some are used by farmers when they are spraying fields.

  6. I feel what the government is doing in Istanbul with that tunnel is ground breaking it opens so many doors to traveling also it helps reduce the cost of trade. With the paceliner that's something I'll probably never ever ride in my life seems really dangerous and the G forces that are forced upon our bodies when going that high and fast I dont know how we would prepare for that, it seems extremely expensive and probably wont happen. I feel that the most worthwhile invention was the invention by Benz with gasoline powered vehicles because they are a huge part of what we use today. By the way I did terrible on that quiz.

    1. I agree with the G forces and not so sure i would partake in this either

  7. I think that the tunnel is pretty amazing. And everything is going to have its faults and mistakes until numerous trials have been ran. I also feel as if they had to many people the first day and it was overwhelming im sure. The spaceliner sounds like a cool idea, and its neat to see how technology is advancing. However i would never pay thousands of dollars for a ticket to go somewhere in 90 minutes. Sounds like something only the very fortunate would do. I think the invention that intrigues me the most would probably be the hovercraft. Its cool how he figured it out in his home.

  8. The tunnel that we are working can help in so many ways. It makes traveling much easier and reduces the cost of trade. I feel the rocket plane is going a little far. Only rich people would even be able to afford to take it and then still there would be safety concerns. I think the most worthwhile invention is the gasoline powered vehicles , probably just because im into cars.
