When I see those four words, I think of the holidays. Because black reminds me of the winter season because most days are gloomy; Small because most people are fit into small areas when the family is together ( or even in stores= a lot of people in a small store); Cyber is of course Cyber Monday; and Giving represents that its the season for giving (Thanksgiving and Christmas). What trends do I notice about the four words, is that its almost a season relation with the fall/winter. What do the trends say about the current economy and society in general? Well... I think the trend says that as the economy has decreased a lot in the physical world but in the cyber world and has increased because its so much easier for the society to deal with and not have to worry about fighting over a product or you can just simply do your business in pajamas! Not only that but in today's society we are more preoccupied and strung up on technology that we have become lazy. Did i participate in any of the events mentioned in the title? Yes i participated in Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I personally think its insane on how packed stores get and how defensive some of the consumers get, I mean its just a product i'm sure you can find a better deal online. I'm more of a Cyber Monday junkie! I just rather not deal with all the crazy commotion and just online shop in my own environment, and sometimes you find better deals on Cyber Monday than on Black Friday!
ReplyDeleteBlack should be an absence of any light or life, small is something that is less in size, cyber is anything online or electronic, and giving is about freely offering something of yourself to another with nothing in return.
ReplyDeleteOver the next few days the context of these words will totally change. Coming up is one of the largest shopping weekends in retail "Black Friday". The Black Friday sale got it's name from the fact that when this tradition started the department stores would move "from the red to the black.". However the tradition has grown into something that is more of a feeding frenzy and an all out battle royal to get the best toys, deals, and sales before the other person. The fact that now the sales start at 6 PM on Thanksgiving, the holiday reserved for remembrance of what we are thankful for and to return those favors done unto us, is a slap in the face to the entire tradition of the holiday. I feel worse for the people having to work those sales than the consumers that come in to buy any of the deals because they are the ones giving up their time with their family. However they went into the job knowing they would work this weekend and it is a driving force of our economy.
Small Business Saturday is a good idea to support local business who can't compete on Friday but it still isn't something that has caught on. I think part of the problem is people spend some much on Friday they don't feel like they should go out on Saturday to shop. However small businesses shouldn't be forgotten because a small business brings more revenue back into a local economy than a Wal-Mart, Target, or big box department store.
Cyber Monday is a relatively new tradition and is the best way to find great deals on electronic devices. The sales happen online all day Monday and are on a limited quantity, limited timed offer. It is a blitz of online marketing across all electronic retailers and if you aren't paying attention to the site at the right time you can miss it.
I have participated in these events before, both shopping and working Black Friday's at different times. I think all of this craziness and hype over this whole weekend is just ridiculous. I like a sale as much as anyone but I have seen people push, pull, and almost fight just to get a toy for their child. The worst part was their kid was right there with them. What kind of message does that send? I think that people should continue to go out on these weekends and shop because they are huge sources of revenue for large retailers and it is money that is brought back into the economy. However I think that the retailers should take some responsibility and stop playing on peoples emotions and lives and leave the shopping for the day after the holiday.
on cyber Monday there are going to be a lot of people buying a lot of devices like cell phones and a lot of I-pads or tables. there will be over one billion dollars made over the one day online. there are also other event like charitable events that are being held to focus on the less fortunate people in the world. in the times like Christmas a lot of people need help making this time of year fun for there family's as well. the tend I notice is that electronics are officially taking over everything and is in really high demand. I did and am going to participate in these events, I am hoping I can get a deal on a I-phone for us cellular on cyber Monday. I think all the craziness is good for the economy quick business is always good for everyone, it is a win win for the customers and the stores.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your thoughts on how active people will be on cyber monday
DeleteThe four words make me think of thanksgiving and Christmas because of the cyber and giving. The trends that I notice is nearly everything is becoming more and more technology based. Now more people do online shopping than previously had, and even more of the online shoppers are doing it off their phones or tablets as well as being able to donate on social media sites also using tablets and phones. I think these trends show that the economy is on the rebound. If people are more willing to donate and shop than previously their showing they have more disposable income. I don't really participate in these events maybe cyber Monday I go online and look at deals but rarely buy anything. I never go to the black Friday events in town because I guess I just don't get too excited about it like some people. The $100 you save on a TV or a item of that sort isn't worth getting trampled and pepper sprayed like I have heard about happening at some stores.
ReplyDeleteThese four words have to do with the shopping phenomenon around Thanksgiving. Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday are all very dependent on social media spreading the word. Whether you hear about special deals through Facebook for cyber monday or see a celebrity is supporting #givingtuesday on twitter, social media plays a crucial word in boosting the morals of shoppers and now givers. I try to stay away from Black Friday shopping because I think it's wrong to have it so close to Thanksgiving, where many people can't come home for the holiday because they have to work that night. Sometimes I try to look for deals on presents on cyber monday. I think America has started an unfortunate trend with Black Friday and people are trying to revive the spirit of giving through the new event of Giving Tuesday. This shows that society really wants to give back to those in need.
ReplyDeleteI think of holidays when I see the four words. I think of black Friday, cyber Monday, and giving Tuesday. People talk about these days with there great deals all over social media. Everybody is talking about these days so it is impossible for it to pass without you knowing. Me , personally has never taken part in these but I don't see the problem in people taking full advantage of these special days. Things definitely get crazy but I think that how it is with any big event going on in today's world
ReplyDeleteI think of black Friday, cyber Monday and giving Tuesday when I see those words. People take part in these events all across the world. Social Media is like a gateway for people to communicate and share their thoughts about these events. However personally I have not taken part in any of the events but I think its a good idea for people to take advantage of the great deals.
